Macotakara points us to a report from Nikkei Business that speculates an LTE-capable iPhone is expected to debut next Fall on carrier NTT DoCoMo. Google translation: NTT DoCoMo's popular smartphone in the U.S. Apple "iPhone" and tablet device "iPad" by selling the next generation in Japan, which was basic agreement with Apple. Under the agreement DoCoMo, high-speed communication standards next summer first "LTE" The Japanese market that supports the iPad is expected to launch LTE-enabled iPhone by fall. Currently, no LTE-capable iOS device exists. Anandtech pointed out earlier possible reasons for the delay was due to LTE modem size limitations as existing chips would not fit inside existing iPhones. Smaller next-generation LTE Qualcomm chips aren't set to hit the market until 2012. The delay of an LTE-enabled iPhone will be beneficial to consumers. Currently, only Rogers and Bell have LTE networks deployed in Canada in major cities (Telus has LTE plans for 2012). Although speedy, access to these 4G networks are expensive, and also resource-heavy, leading to shorter battery life. Just take a look at any 4G Android phone–fast download speeds, but at the expense of your battery. Until LTE is widely adopted, coverage will stay in urban areas and pricing models will remain high. Rumor: iPad 3 and iPhone 5 both on track for LTE Nov 30th 2011, 19:01 By Rene Ritchie, Wednesday, Nov 30, 2011 | No Comments Nikkei Business is reporting that the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 are both on their way with LTE 4G radios, set to debut on Japan's NTT DoCoMo in summer and fall of 2012 respectively. Yes, we already suspect an iPad 3 and iPhone 5 are coming next year, and yes we already suspect they'll both have LTE options on networks that support it, but it's still nice to see the usual rumors popping up along the way. Apple CEO Tim Cook is said to have met with NTT DoCoMo president Kiyoyuki Tsujimura and VP Takashi Yamada earlier this month to work out the details of the arrangement, and the companies have reportedly reached agreeable terms. As to the timing, summer and fall Japanese launches don't preclude spring and summer U.S. releases, but as we saw with the iPhone 4S this year, Apple isn't afraid to move the timing around. Could iPad 3 take over the old iPhone WWDC spot in June 2012? Steven Levy, currently writing for Wired, has published an in-depth look at his 48 page manuscript interview with Steve Jobs, that took place back in November of 1983 (he was writing for Rolling Stone): I can't find the tape of my first interview with Steve Jobs. At some point in the past 28 years—the conversation took place in November 1983—it got lost. But I do have the 43-page transcript, complete with the transcriber's misunderstandings ("lease the technology" instead of "Lisa technology," for instance). It was the first of what turned out to be many interviews, currently stacked in a dog-eared tower of pages here on my desk. After Jobs died on October 5, I've found myself drawn back to this archive and now realize that it comprises an idiosyncratic portrait of Jobs himself as he evolved over the years. The interview took place over vegan pizza in a Californian. It's a fascinating read that dives deep into the thinking of Steve Jobs and his view of how technology was evolving.
