Even though Apple now offers unlocked iPhones from their online and retail stores in some countries, there is still a desire to unlock the iPhone, after it's been purchased from a carrier. Having an unlocked iPhone means you can change carriers without having to trade in your device, and gives you the freedom to use your iPhone contract free.
