Waiting times up to three weeks at Verizon

AT&T and Verizon are crediting long waits for the iPhone 4S to high demand, rather than Apple's ability to supply, according to the Wall Street Journal. "We are having some supply issues in the sense that demand's huge," says AT&T's president of emerging devices, Glenn Lurie. "We have had just record-breaking sales on it."

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney remarks that the carrier is working with Apple to increase 4S inventory. "Not only was the iPhone 4S popular when it was introduced, but the popularity continues to build," she says. "We don't want to keep our customers waiting for their purchases."

Buyers may have to wait three weeks or more to get a 4S from Verizon, however. At AT&T the delay is up to 21 days, although spokesman Mark Siegel says that 10 is more common. Sprint, by contrast, has a 14-day waiting period, and regional carrier C Spire has none. Apple continues to list one- to two-week shipping times at its online store.
