FireCore, the team behind the Seas0nPass Apple TV jailbreaking tool, has just released its aTV Flash (black) Release Candidate 1 for the 2nd generation Apple TV. The aTV Flash (black) is a very safe and user-friendly software package that has been in beta for approximately 10 months and brings a ton of new functionality to the Apple TV. Installing aTV Flash (black) is painless and doesn't require a user to make any physical changes to their Apple TV.
To give you a better idea of what aTV Flash (black) has to offer, here is a list of its features for Apple TV 2G owners:
- The ability to play popular media formats including MKV, AVI, MP4, and many others
- Surf the web and stream HTML5
- Access all of your DVDs on a single device
- Discover new music via Last.fm
- Automatically download and display cover art and other meta data from TheMovieDB and TheTVDB
- Stream media from a Mac, PC or NAS device directly to the AppleTV
- Create video playlists
- Access to weather forecasts
- Keep track of all your favorite news via RSS feeds.
The aTV Flash (black) is commercial software that is available for pre-order with a year's worth of upgrades for a discounted price of $19.99. It only requires that a user has a jailbroken 2nd generation Apple TV to use (which can be done using FireCore's Seas0nPass for those who haven't already jailbroken). Pre-orderers get free access to Release Candidate 1, which is available right now, and former beta testers can download RC1 by going to Maintenance > Manage Extras.
A full changelog of this release and more information about pre-ordering is available at FireCore's blog post, and you can watch a demo video of aTV Flash (black) in action below:
