The BBC reports Apple's famed Senior Vice President of Industrial Design, Jony Ive has received a knighthood as part of the New Year Honours list. We can now call him Sir Jonathan Ive as he is now a Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE). His award was even appreciated by Phil Schiller on twitter.

He described the honour as "absolutely thrilling" and said he was "both humbled and sincerely grateful".

Mr Ive added: "I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making.

"I discovered at an early age that all I've ever wanted to do is design."

Ive considered quitting as head of Apple's design team back in 1997, but changed his mind after Jobs became iCEO, and reinvigorated the company to focus on design instead of maximizing profits, as detailed in the Steve Jobs biography.

Previously profiled by the Daily Mail, Ive has played an integral part in Apple's success and recently spoke at the special event, Celebrating Steve, held at Apple's Cupertino campus back in late October.

Usually not in the spotlight, Ive captivates the room when he speaks with his booming English voice. Check out the video below if you haven't already:
