If you're the owner of a 2nd generation Apple TV that is running iOS 4.4.2, you may be interested to know that FireCore has updated its jailbreaking tool, Seas0nPass, to support the newest iOS version on the Apple TV. The Apple TV 2G jailbreak is currently tethered, although this shouldn't be much of a problem as most Apple TV owners don't tend to carry them around. Follow these steps to achieve a tethered jailbreak on your Apple TV 2G running iOS 4.4.x:
- Download iOS 4.4.2 (9A336a) and save the IPSW somewhere easy to find.
- Download the latest version of Seas0nPass (OS X, Windows).
- Open Seas0nPass, then press Option + Click (Mac) or press Shift + Click (PC) the Create IPSW button. Here, select the new IPSW file that was downloaded in Step 1.
- Let Seas0nPass complete the jailbreak and restore process (which it will do automatically)
- After the restore is complete, move your Apple TV to your TV and follow the steps provided to perform a Tethered Boot.
FireCore has even specified plugin compatibility with iOS 4.4.x, which includes the following fully functional plugins:
- Media Player
- Couch Surfer
- Last.fm
- Weather
- RSS Feeds
- Overflow
- Remote HD
- XBMC (nightly builds only)
Plugins which have not yet been updated to support iOS 4.4.x include:
If you're okay with a tethered jailbreak on your Apple TV 2G, FireCore's Seas0nPass is the way to go.
