Jolicloud switches from OS to cloud focus

Jolicloud has dropped its netbook OS focus in favor of a new beta service. The new framework hopes to unify multiple cloud services, such as Dropbox, Facebook, iCloud, and narrower services like Flickr, Instagram, or Spotify. Once linked up, content will show up in a central feed.

Content will be available both through the desktop as well as through native Android, iPad, and iPhone apps. Access has yet to go live and currently depends on being accepted into the private beta through the current sign-up program.

Jolicloud once hoped to have a fully Internet-focused alternative to Windows or Linux but has had trouble getting widespread adoption. It once promised a Chromium-influenced notebook but has since decided to open-source its Joli OS platform to be used by others.
