AT&T previously announced they will begin throttling data speeds for unlimited iPhone data plan owners in their top 5% of heaviest data users. Now, the carrier is sending out warnings to those users advising them to use Wi-Fi to avoid throttling (SMS a user received from AT&T shown above).
AT&T recently discontinued their unlimited data plans, but allowed those already on the plan to keep it even through device upgrades.
The throttling officially started October 1st, so it appears AT&T is sending out last-minute warnings to the users who will be affected by the reduced data speeds. The carrier has promised multiple warnings and even a grace period before it actually begins to throttle users, and it appears the warning phase now is in place. Those affected will continue to have access to unlimited data, although speeds will be reduced until a new billing cycle begins and data usage resets.
