Native app mixes social networking with beers
Untappd has released a native version of its social check-in app for beer drinkers for smartphones (free, iPhone, Android). The move, from being web-based to residing as an native app on mobile devices, offers users faster speeds, an improved interface, and new features. BlackBerry users, unfortunately, will have to wait before going native.
Untappd is an app to share what beer an individual is drinking, where where it's being imbibed, and what they think of the brew or location. The app is considered a more specific parallel to Foursquare.
With the native version, Untappd users will no longer be required to reload the site every time it's opened. The app's previous state is maintained when closed, so check-in is easier and faster. Photos have also been integrated into checking in, so any pictures of the beer, label or surroundings can be shared immediately.
Previously, whenever someone toasts or comments on a check-in, email notifications were sent out. Now, Untappd has integrated a tab that displays actions taken when checking in. Additionally, there's a more convenient place for friends' requests as well as Untappd news and updates.
